About Forest Hoag’s Blog

If you pay any attention to the news these days, I think it’s pretty natural to assume that widespread civil meltdown is right around the corner, and any concerns that one might have for “social justice” are uniquely remarkable. However, I recently heard an interview with a scientist and inventor named Ray Kurzweil, who believes in this idea he calls “the singularity,” named after a concept in physics that has to do with black holes. Basically, “singularity” will occur when artificial intelligence, which is increasing in exponential leaps and bounds every minute, will meet and surpass biological, or human, intelligence. Human and non-human systems of awareness will merge, intelligence will expand outwards into the universe at the speed of light, and the human civilization will irreparably and drastically change. Mr. Kurzweil has a neat way of explaining how this is basically a predictable phenomena that will happen in the next 50 years or so. So it’s pretty much either that or widespread civil meltdown, which makes this an interesting time to be alive.

My early ideas for this blog included the high-and-mighty ambition of collecting current news stories and making fun of them. What I discovered was that not only is the cyber world totally saturated with experts that write an unbelievable amount of expert stuff, but that one sort of has to be an expert to understand some of these topics. Deregulated financial markets and the subsequent bailouts. The housing crisis. The real meaning of unemployment statistics. Barack Obama. Anarchism. Debt. Israel, Iraq, etc. These are things that aren’t funny to poke fun at unless you’re really smart, which I’m not. I’m a motorcycle messenger in Seattle, Washington. I’m barely a college graduate. I don’t really like very many people.

In other words, I’m going to continue to post links to my favorite news stories, and ramble on in my self-indulgent, reactionary, layman’s-terms style, but I’m not taking myself too seriously. I’m also trying to record the tender, illuminating moments that make those apocalyptic absurdities of daily life tolerable, and help to remind me that one way or another, we all sort of need each other in these end days, just like we always have. If we don’t kill each other first.

give yourself more credit. one can probably get a better perspective of things going on from a motor messenger than from the so-called experts. if someone has to be an expert to understand the writings of these elite professionals, they’re not doing their jobs. rational layman’s terms win every time.

Well, after seeing your blog, I still think you’re a jerk! (Ha Ha) It adds a new dimension to the personality that am just coming to know. Good work, good luck, and looking forward to riding together in the future.
