Tiedeman in the New York Times, June, 1989
Twenty years ago this month, my mom witnessed a horrific massacre in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China. No one really knows how many students and protesters were murdered by government soldiers during those few days in May, because the Chinese government claims it never happened. It’s also illegal to even talk about it in China. I plan on doing a proper interview with Moon when we get the chance; here are a few of the photos that she took, and some of the newspaper articles that featured her eyewitness account of the atrocity.
