Skagit County

It was the kind of room in which you might find yourself attending a court-ordered anger management class, or the room where you wait for the cops to show up because you just got busted, shoplifting at Target. Actually it was the “break room” for the guys who work at FedEx. I had to wait in there for about an hour this morning to serve papers on some FedEx employees; I sat at a folding table surrounded by plastic chairs, while the hapless, unsuspecting workers came in to hit up the coffee machine.

The idea of starting your day in that room made me realize something: never work at FedEx. The cold, serious fluorescent light was as ruthless and penetrating as capitalism. It seemed like the room was also used as some kind of meeting space, but it was impossible to think in the windowless horror of the white walls, adorned with Safety and Professional Attitude posters.

I quickly left the building, and was immediately struck by this forlorn little group of farm equipment, waiting in a field as the sun came up.

I will need to get some more info on where to find that room so I can take some pictures of some signs. I think it’s a sign that 2 people have told me about those signs. I think they might help my cause. I’ll probably forget to ask you later on the street.
